  • Why need Business Number?
    Canadian business must obtain a Business Number (MANDATORY) to have the access on Canada Revenue Agency account. Business Number is also known as RC number (RC0001). This is the unique identification of your business with CRA. A Business Number is often required to to make any business contract, setting up an payment processing account, google business account, trade name application, Amazon account, annual corporate filing etc.
  • What is WCB?
    It's the Workers' Compnesation Board. If your corporation plan to have employees now or in future, it MUST register with WCB. We register and give you the account number and hook you with WCB authority. Please note, it does not cost monthly premium fees, rather WCB authority will advise on your eligibility of free program or fees.

    Individuals of any age can set up a Sole Proprietorship. Nevertheless, to open a business bank account or sign legal agreements for business transactions, a certain minimum age may be necessary. At present, there are no citizenship or residency requirements to register a sole proprietorship in Ontario.
  • Can the owner and business have different address?
    Certainly. The owner can have an address in any location, but the business registration address must be confined to the specific province where it is registered.

    • What is NUANS report?
      NUANS, or Newly Upgraded Automated Name Search, is a federal database utilized to verify if there are any existing business names that could potentially conflict with your intended name. For registering a business in a province (Ontario, Alberta, New Brunswick, PEI), only the NUANS Reservation Report specific to that province is accepted. Keep in mind that a federal NUANS report cannot be used for this purpose.
    • Your registration already expired?
      If your existing business registration has already expired, the government system will generate a new registration document with the same business name and carry over the same CRA accounts (Business Number, HST Account, Payroll Account etc.)
    • What is business activity type?
      A business can sell to its customer services or goods or both. Services examples are professional and technical services, consultancy, recreation, arts and entertainment, social assistance etc.
    • What activities should I write?
      Write your primary and most important business activity (only one). Be specific and avoid general description to avoid delays. Make it short and straight to the point to expediate the process.

    • Every business in Alberta is required to designate an Agent for Service who must live in Alberta. If the business owner lives outside of Alberta, you must appoint an Alberta lawyer or attorney or agent for service. You have an option to obtain this service from any Alberta firm or from us.

    • What are the requirements for a business address?
      • The address must be a physical location within Alberta.
      • P.O. Boxes and virtual addresses are not permitted.
      • All official correspondence and legal documents related to the business will be sent to this address.
    • How can I change my address in the future?
      You can update your business’s registered address at any time by paying the applicable filing fee. Many businesses initially use a home or residential address during registration and update it later once they acquire a commercial or office location.
    • What Is an Address Service?
      The Address Service is an annual mail-handling and document-scanning solution we offer to businesses that do not have a local physical address in Ontario. This service can be renewed yearly for a similar fee. Any government or business-related mail received on your behalf will be scanned and emailed directly to you.
    • What is the difference between the 2 Address options?
      The address service alone with provide your business with a registered address that will allow for it to comply with the registration requirements. This address is not for operations. Solely for registration purposes. The mail scanning to email service is for forwarding all email digitally to you if the address receives any government-related mail for your registered business.
    • Can I change email address later?
      Yes, you can. If you do not have an official business email address yet, you can use a Gmail or Hotmail address here. Once your business is registered and you have an official domain name and email address, you can update this through our website.

    • If you hire or plan to hire one or more Employees, you may need to register for Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) Account.

    • Who needs a GST/HST account?
      If you sell products and services in Canada and collect GST/HST from your Customers, then GST/HST Account Number is Required. Customer's invoice or receipt must show the HST number. Unable to collect HST may cause penalty by CRA.
    • What is payroll account?
      If you hire Employees including yourself, then you need a Payroll Account Number. If you do not have an employee, your own salary or a family member's salary can be processed through the payroll account to take advantage of CRA 'income splitting'. Please note, this is not a payroll service, rather the initial set up of a payroll account with CRA.
    • What is import account?
      If your business involves importing physical goods, it is required. The government uses this account to process the customs clearance.
    • What is export account?
      If your business involves exporting physical goods, it is required. The government uses this account to process the customs clearance.
    • Do I need WCB registration?
      Registering with Workers' Compnesation Board (WCB) is required for most businesses In Ontario within 10 days of hiring their first employee. Some types of businesses are exempted from mandatory registration with WCB based on the activities (Examples are banks, insurance companies, hair salons (with exceptions), private schools or daycares, travel agencies, etc.) but many employers in these industries choose to register with the WCB anyways for protection to their workers. WCB registration is more important for small businesses and start-ups to provide financial security in the event of a workplace accident.
